Carley DeFranco, soprano

A passionate communicator and dynamic presence onstage, soprano Carley DeFranco gives meaningful and embodied performances. Recent projects include the roles of Anna/Dido in the East Coast premiere of Errolyn Wallen’s Dido’s Ghost with Emmanuel Music, a fully staged production of Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations with Urbanity Dance, singing and dancing onstage as a siren with Boston Ballet and Lorelei Ensemble in La Mer, and the premiere of Christopher Tin’s Lost Birds with VOCES8. A former Lorraine Hunt Lieberson Fellow with Emmanuel Music, Carley has been a soloist and chorister in most of their recent concert and staged productions. She has been a guest soloist with many organizations, including the Spectrum Singers, Music Worcester, Lexington Symphony, Symphony NH, Back Bay Chorale, Falmouth Chorale, Boston Cecilia, Boston Choral Ensemble, MIT Choruses, Harvard Choruses, Monadnock Music, Sarasa Ensemble, Aurora Ensemble, Silentwoods Collective, and Musicians of the Old Post Road. A dedicated chorister, Carley won the Stephen Shrestinian Award for Excellence in 2024–25 for her artistic and collegial contributions to the Boston Lyric Opera Chorus. She performs regularly with Handel and Haydn Society, Oregon Bach Festival, Ensemble Altera, and True Concord Voices and Orchestra. Carley is the founder of DeFranco Music LLC and partners with local schools to offer music lessons. She is a Voice Instructor in Harvard University’s Holden Voice Program and teaches from her home in Brookline.

Dana Whiteside, baritone

Baritone Dana Whiteside has crafted a life in music that encompasses gratifying activity as a soloist and ensemble member. He has performed in Haydn’s Creation, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis and Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and Vaughan Williams’s A Sea Symphony. His stage roles have included Time in John Harbison’s Winter’s Tale with Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Speaker in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Boston Baroque, and Carl Magnus in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music with Emmanuel Music. Mr. Whiteside has received critical acclaim for his voice of “noble clarity…powerful and resonant” (Washington Post). Recent season highlights include appearances as soloist with Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall; Jesus in the St. Matthew Passion; and soloist in the world premiere of Aaron Siegel’s I Will Tell You the Truth About This, I Will Tell You All About it. Educated at Holy Cross College, Longy School of Music, New England Conservatory, and Tanglewood Music Center, Mr. Whiteside is an avid recitalist while also enjoying affiliation with Handel and Haydn Society, Cantata Singers, Emmanuel Music, and Boston Baroque. He is also a member and featured soloist of the Skylark Vocal Ensemble. Mr. Whiteside belongs to Beyond Artists, a coalition of artists whose members donate a portion of their concert fee to organizations they care about. With his performances he supports Bay Cove Human Services and Women’s Lunch Place.

About the venue

Cary Hall is located west of Boston in the upscale suburb of Lexington, MA. Originally built in 1928 and fully renovated in 2015, Cary Hall hosts a variety of music, comedy, and family programming, and is home to Lexington’s professional orchestra, the Lexington Symphony.

Parking and directions

Cary Hall is accessible via the MBTA bus route 62.

Parking is available in nearby municipal lots and at on-street metered spaces. There are spaces for those with handicapped placards in the driveway in front of the venue.
