Masterworks. Redefined.
Come sing with us.
What distinguishes Masterworks Chorale from other ensembles?
First, it’s our leadership. We flourish under Music Director Kevin Leong. With a scientist’s mind and an artist’s soul, he holds us to a professional standard and gives us the tools to get there. There’s not a moment wasted in rehearsal and preparation.
Then there’s the repertoire. This season it’s some Handel, some Lauridsen, and wrapping up with Mozart and Haydn.
Our performances at world-class venues like Sanders Theatre in Cambridge and the historic First Church in Cambridge create jaw-dropping sound and space experiences for our audiences. All accompanied by the highest-caliber orchestral players, many of whom play with Handel & Haydn Society, and feature competition-winning soloists.
Auditions
Join us, won’t you? We are eager learners who delight in what feels like a voice lesson each and every week.
Auditions for the Masterworks Chorale are offered periodically throughout the season. Interested singers can attend an open rehearsal on the evening of Tuesday, November 19.
To schedule an audition or ask a question, please email membership@masterworkschorale.org.
Your audition will consist of vocalizing, sight reading, and a solo of your choosing. It is best to prepare a solo that allows you to demonstrate legato singing and musical line. It does not have to be memorized. Please bring at least one copy of the music for the pianist we will provide to accompany you.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, 7:30-10:00 p.m. from early September through May, plus our dress rehearsal and concert schedule. We meet at Beth El Temple Center in Belmont. Ample free parking is available, and buses run directly from Harvard Square. Concerts are performed in Sanders Theatre, Cambridge, First Church Cambridge, Old South Church, Boston, and Cary Hall, Lexington.
Three Requirements of Membership
Your commitment to attend and prepare for weekly rehearsals, plus our dress rehearsal and concert schedules;
Your annual dues of $210 ($360 for married couples, partners, or two members of the same immediate family);
And a re-audition every three years.
Our commitment to support students and young singers
For undergraduate and graduate college students 30 years of age or younger, your annual dues are paid by the Kaitlyn Schlegel Young Singers Fund. For non-student singers, 26 years of age and under, financial assistance for partial or full payment of annual dues is also available from the Kaitlyn Schlegel Young Singers Fund. Click here to read more about this fund.
Singers in both categories are required to pay for their own scores. For more information, please contact membership@masterworkschorale.org, or ask a Board Member at one of our rehearsals.
